Math is my strong suit you know……

The previous statement is Sarcasm at it’s best!!! The truth is, I suck at math!! Im no good at it, I am mathematically challenged, math is a challenge for me!!

But Reading, now there’s a meal I can sink my teeth into and I recently read that continuing to LEARN things is good because it builds lots of roads in our brains. I read that later on when old-timers sets in, which can be like road blocks in our brains, we can still get around by way of detours if we have lots of different routes to take. So when the dumb ol’ road blocks appear, if we’ve been adding roads we can just take an alternate route and go around the road block.  Alternate routes can be adventurous you know, so Im building up detours for my brain by continuing to learn new things…. Like Math!

And just to be clear,  Im READING about math, I have no idea if I’m actually Learning math but Im pretty sure Im learning About math in this book called, Math Recess!  Have you heard of it?

It’s written by this guy I went to school with, Chris Brownell (ahem, DR Chris Brownell, PhD) which is amazing! We went to the Same School; he turned out to be a professor of MATH with a DOCTORATE in math and an Author of said subject and I turned out be……… a reader of his book!!!

At any rate, there’s a lot of Math involved in photography, who knew?! I sure never did. I don’t think I’d have attempted photography if I’d have known there was Math involved but guess what?

Dinkey Creek through the DC Bridge Camera: Sony a7iii Lens: Sigma 14-24 F2.8 DVDN Art at 16mm f6.3 1/250 ISO 50

Math is involved in EVERYthing!!!  Gugh.

So here we gooooo……. Im building alternate routes in my brain and now when I look at things like the Dinkey Creek Bridge, elevation 5988 I realize that that’s geometry right there in the Dinkey Creek Bridge which is named for a DOG! I would've thought it was named for Mr. Dinkey but nope. It's named for the dog, Dinkey, who valiantly, yet fatally fought a bear right there at the creek, leaving his group of hunters enough time to shoot the bear!!  Thank you for your service Dinkey, well done; we remember to fondly!

The light that morning was filtered light which is photography language for Smokey because our valley is filled with the Smoke from the Wildfires that are burning north of us, the Kincade Fire and South of us, the Getty Fire which is sad but smoky light is filtered light and it catches my eye so I was glad as I drove out to Dinky Creek and found the Bridge and all it’s geometry.

And just in case you're wondering, these photos are not Mirror Images.  I've been known lately to mirror some of my images, it's an alternate route I've been building but these are not mirrored, they're geometry and there's math involved so I cant explain it other than to say they are symmetrical which means they are the same on both sides, which is what my mirrored images are! I know you knew that.  I think I've been doing math all along and didnt even know it!

oooooooooh, so just for fun, as if math isn’t fun enough, let's Mirror this Bridge and see if you can see the difference between the natural bridge, I mean the one built by man at the creek named for Dinkey the DOG that fought the bear!  And the Bridge well the dog didn’t fight the bridge he fought the bear. The bridge is named for the creek that bears the dog's name!

Of course you can name the geometric shapes in the bridge, a redwood bowstring one-of-a-kind-in-CA arch truss bridge, built by men who knew math quite well, 99 years before I was born (I did the math)!!!

Remember how Tom used to say.... "Crying a river? Build A Bridge and GET OVER IT!" and then we would Laugh! oh dear

And now, for fun here are the Mirrored Images of the Dinky Creek Bridge.

And the Oak Leaves, oh the glorious Oaks!!  Mirrored of course:
